Vega, Design Handheld Barcode Scanner
Year 2008
With the acquisition of Scantech ID by Taiwanese Company Champtek the first joint development of a new Euro-Asian product was the “high-tech, high-touch” project, a project to design and develop a Handheld Barcode Scanner. EYE-D was hired to combine the best of both worlds into European Design & Ergonomics and Asian High Tech.
The design was targeted to be different aesthetically from the existing “gun like” handheld scanners and ergonomically seamlessly be part of the (female) hand. After the project definition in the “understanding” phase we started “visualizing” immediately experimenting with all kinds of models and sketches an approaches we continued during “evaluation” with prototypes based on CAD files. We have been closely involved in the plastic engineering of the housing in Taiwan and the actual production startup.
The result is a stylish handheld product and charging cradle that met all set goals and was awarded with a Good Design Mark in Japan in 2008. Production started in August 2008.

Eurotech Ring Scanner, Design Ring Size Scanner
Year 2007
Taiwanese Company Champtek is a strong player in OEM barcode scan engines. One of Champtek’s customer Eurotech Spa. from Italy approached Champtek to design a Ring Scanner as input device for their Zypad wrist computer. EYE-D Designed Innovation was involved in the ergonomic design of the ring size scanner, pre engineering and supervising the engineering in Taiwan.
The ring scanner is a “point and scan” input device that must give users the possibility to use the ring scanner and still be able to write, carry boxes, etc. After the product definition in the “understanding” phase we started with small functional models “visualizing” immediately to test several “trigger” options and learn more about the “point and scan” function by doing it. When we defined the best functional configuration we started to design the easthetics and sub-functions like making it usable for right- and lefthand users and adjusting it over different finger sizes.
The result is a stylish Ring Scanner that is seamless part of your hand and enables maximum freedom for other tasks. Early 2008 Eurotech launched the 1D CCD version and later this year the 2D CMOS version will be launched.
