Posted June 30th, 2009 by admin

Passion for creating innovative and attractive product- service combinations, talent and 15 years of experience and skill accumulated in winning the most prestigious award possible for an Industrial Designer, the famous Red Dot for the Vega Handheld Barcode Scanner Designed for Champtek from Taiwan. The Red Dot Website

The Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen (Essen, Germany) has been marking outstanding international product design since 1955 with its famous dot. With over 3200 entries from 49 countries, only 683 products received an award. The Red Dot design award ranks among the largest design competitions in the world. The submitted products are evaluated according to a number of strict criteria, including degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, self-explanatory quality, formal quality, symbolic and emotional content, ecological compatibility and durability. These criteria are constantly adapted to reflect the latest technical, manufacturing, societal, industrial and ecological developments.

In an Award Gala the Red Dot Organisation presented the best of the best winners on stage and the Tupperware International Design Team was Awarded as best Design Team of 2009. Seeing famous Designers of Seat or Bose being very honoured to receive the Red Dot made me as Self Employed Designer very proud to be one of the 683 winners.

The Red Dot design award is the fourth design award for the ‘Vega’ Handheld Barcode Scanner and even more prestigious then the iF Award received in March 2009. Earlier in 2008 the ‘Vega’ received the Taiwan Excellence and the most prestigious Asian Design Price, the Japanese G-Mark Award.

With the fourth and most prestigious award just received this award is also recognition for a unique approach in design and the way we bring together user behaviour and innovation. EYE-D is specialized in the creation of innovative product- & service design concepts and has been pioneer in service design since 1999. We have blend service design approaches into our industrial design work and took care of the complete development of the ‘Vega’ and looked after every detail in the product.

“This design marks the complete road I have travelled as designer, from design engineering 15 years ago, designer of ergonomic- & aesthetic products like the Vega into strategic new product- service combinations now” says Ron Verweij who is the man behind EYE-D.

Most crucial part in the Vega’s design where numerous hand models made and tested by potential users and this co-creation phase is now the reason why all design award jury’s love the Vega. The touch and feel is “natural”, all the interfaces are at the right position and the whole product looks very good and has a high level of detail quality.

This Award will not change EYE-D’s focus as a company, although the Award mainly is for the Industrial Design efforts, EYE-D will keep its focus on new innovative product- & service combinations with the product as carrier of new services. Products like the Iphone are carriers of services and applications on the Iphone, EYE-D have been a pioneer in this field since 1999. With the service scenario’s developed in 2000 for Scantech / Gavitec based on a new innovative technology on camera phones we have been Europe’s leading service design company with the most used service.

This is the investor video of Gavitec made in 2001 based on the service design scenario’s developed by EYE-D. There are nowdays more then 100 million phones that have barcode scan software to read embedded barcodes and receive the content connected to this embedded barcodes and all kinds of services available as presented in this video as a vision behind the technology.

EYE-D is specialized in combining design, innovation, co-creation, usability and strategic goals in the creation of new products- and services. EYE-D designs technology enabled experiences, ranging from interactive environments to products that are part of this environment. EYE-D offers Industrial Design, Service Design and Innovation Management.

Service Design Scenario’s for Mobile in Aviation

Posted April 6th, 2009 by admin

Ron Verweij, founder of Mbarc and the man behind EYE-D Designed Innovation, presents the service design scenario’s he developed for presentation to KLM’s Innovation Board in 2006. Based on the awaited standardisation of the Mobile Boarding Pass he developed these scenario’s to show KLM the real value of the Mobile Channel as part of a better service by Airlines. The Mobile Monday Amsterdam organisation asked Ron also to share the lessons learned and developments since 2006 to give Mobile Entrepeneurs some insights in challenges ahead.

On March 15 2009 KLM launched the Mobile Boarding Pass and during the presentation they announced Mobile Checkin Services. KLM is one of more then 25 Airlines who introduced the Mobile Boarding Pass so for the acceptence of Mbarc technology we are sure this is an important milestone. For the context based services as we launched in these scenario’s its still too early, nevertheless we believe Airlines can sthrenghten their core product, giving people who travel an excellent travel experience, with Mobile services.
